I've been using and experimenting with VOIP (voice over the internet) companies for about four years. I make most of my calls to the US and from time to time to Europe. Here are my results:
Best Quality: Skype www.Skype.com. Price: about 2US cents per minute. Note: ALL CALLS TO TOLL-FREE NUMBERS ARE ABSOLUTELY FREE! I use Skype to make my toll-free calls to my bank, Social Security or any company with a toll-free number.
Best Value: Yahoo phone-out. www.voice.yahoo. com . This is the one I use for all my other calls to the US. The price is 1US cent per minute and the quality varies from fair to excellent. You buy $10 credits with a credit or debit card. That's 1,000 minutes!! (16.66 hrs). Toll free numbers are also free.
Best Value to calls to landlines in Israel is www.nymgo.com. I use this England-based company to make my call to Israel and within Israeli landlines at less than one cent per minute! (0.009). You can receive calls on your landline from all over the world! Calls to cell phones are much higher at 8 cents p/mn.
In brief, if money is no object, use Skype, otherwise Yahoo's Phone-out is a great value, along with Nymgo for Israel landline calls.

The largest VOIP provider in the world is Skype. There prices are
reasonable and they work as effectively as any other service.

Jivitel is good!
I've been using Jivitel for both my American phone line and internet, and it
works great! Boruch Hashem, I have not had any problems. The price is also
pretty good.
If you want to get it, the phone number of the guy I ordered it
from is 052-582-7700.

Happy with Talk n' save land line
We have been using the Talk n' save land line since we made aliyah
2.5 years ago. We are extremely happy with it. Thank G-D we have yet to
have any issues with connection. True, It does cost a bit more but you have
the satisfaction of not being tied to the internet. So if its down or
slow or your working.your connection isn't affected.
Your caller id wont tell you the number coming from the
states, it just says "out of area."

BroadVoice
We are currrently located in Seoul, Korea, where lots of people use
Vonage. Since we wanted an option that included not only Korea-US but
also Korea-Israel, I did on-line research and came up with
BroadVoice, www.broadvoice.com which we have been using for almost
a year and are very pleased with.
The company supplied us with a router (which I think can actually
handle 2 lines) at about $90, as an initial expense, and we pay $25
monthly (flat rate) for the ability to call 35 different countries.
This allowed for a recent guest to explore job possibilities in
China, and for us to sell our chametz with a rabbi in Japan.
In the US the service covers all land-line and mobile calls, only
land lines in the other countries. But even when we do have to call
mobile phones (Israel, China) the charges have been really low.
There are echoes on the line sometimes, and we've had some problems
with sending faxes, but in general the call quality is quite good and
we're very satisfied.
I think the main office for Broadvoice is in Massachusetts.

Broadfone Israel gets a thumbs up
We've had BROADFONE through Reuven Grossman since we made aliyah
about 18 months ago. We've used it at two different apartments with
different internet hookups, and never had any complaints. Very
reliable, very good customer service, etc...

Magic Jack VOIP Review
We have MAGIC JACK. When we first started using it
about 9 months ago the sound quality varied from good
to awful. Then they sent us a message that they had
upgraded their system to improve the quality. Ever
since then the sound quality has been very good.

doesn't attempt to download a movie at the same time. You can even get
around that by ordering a second line and dedicating it to the phone.

I am using Vonage on HOT with Bezeqint for an ISP. I found that as long as
you sign up for a decent speed (I have 3.0/278) there is no problem with
either web use or phone quality.
