Reuven Philips mortgage broker in RBS was a bracha

I highly recommend Reuven Philips at 999-9699

He is an excellent mortgage broker.

He saved us a lot of money and time and effort.

It is really not worth doing it on your own.

The banks made a mistake that would have been impossible for
us to fix and would have held us up for months.

A real bracha we had Reuven!

Bank Pagi recommendation

I know of a terrific bank. You would have to come in to Yerushalayim
to open the acct, but once it is open, you can do all the other
transactionsfrom transferring money from the US to the most
reasonable prices for banking that I was able to find in all of Israel.

They are a much better run, much friendlier, much less expensive
offshoot of another bank.
They are really geared for the Oleh Chodesh. The name is Bank Pagi.

The best ever bank that I have found is U Bank

The best ever bank that I have found is U Bank.
They are rather new and are SERVICE oriented.
My branch is in Rechovot and I can not say enough to praise them.
U Bank also has branches in Raanana, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Good Luck,

Bank HaPoalim in RBS-no gripes

Without the slightest reservation, I would recommend Bank HaPoalim in
Ramat Bet Shemesh, managed by David Baruch. David is an American who
has been in Israel for many years and is as professional of a banker
as you will find anywhere. His staff, most of whom speak a high
level of English, are considerate and professional.

Many people gripe about their banking relationships in Israel--I rave
about the relationship I have and the service I receive from Bank
HaPoalim in Ramat Bet Shemesh.

David can be reached directly at +972-2-990-2430.

Aaron Morgan mortgage broker, big mentch

I would like to highly recommend AARON MORGAN from Mortgage
Israel to
help you find a mortgage.. I tried to do it myself by going to
different banks and negotiating but lost too much time and patience
dealing with different banks. I gave over my quest to Aaron Morgan at
Mortgage Israel and what a blessing it was. Aaron is very
knowledgeable and has the connections in different banks to make
things work. He's a pleasure to work with , is a big mentch, and B'H
got me a great rate plus good reductions on many costs.

He can be
reached at 052 568 8940 or 02 532 5590.

Happy with HaBeinleumi

I am happy with HaBeinleumi (First International Bank) (*3009),
Agrippas branch (out side the Clal Building). They have good full
service and everyone I have dealt with there for the past 16 months
speaks English. Don't ask for any Olim discounts, but the trade off
is good English speaking service and no lines. And its near the shuk
and your everyday shopping needs.

Citibank-outstanding service 24/7

Other then the 3% Master Card fee for overseas transactions they
provide outstanding customer service 24/7. There interest rates
are very reasonable. We changed to CitiBank ESavings. and opened
our accounts from Israel.

We needed a US address but everything else
was a pleasure.
We use my Mother's address but our account address is Israel.

Check them out. go to CITIBANK.COM and talk to them.

Vanguard account transfers

If you have an account with Vanguard, use EFT to transfer
money
to them from your accounts in the US, then use their
International Wire Transfer service.
The service is free for transfers over

$5000, and only $5 for anything under that amount.

Note that you must mail them a written request in order to add an
international wire receiving account.
We used the Israeli express overseas
mail which took 3-4 days, and the transfer itself takes a few more days.

Best of luck!

Ellen

Bank of Internet gives -and gets- credit

I have a Bank of Internet checking account, which I
use to withdraw US funds at Israeli atms. They have
been absolutely wonderful and I've used them for
years.

The great thing about them is that they don't
charge international withdrawal fees, and go one step
further and give atm fee credits. When I use an atm
in Israel and withdraw funds, they credit my account
to the nearest $5.00.

For example, a few weeks ago I withdrew 1000 shekels.
On my account that worked out to $262.33, and my
account was automatically credited $2.33. There's a
maximum credit they'll give you per month, $6.00 for
the basic checking account.

As it's an internet bank, the way to deposit funds is
to send a check or do an ach/eft transfer from another
bank account.

See more info at:
http://www.bankofinternet.com/open/checking.asp

I maintain a US address that I use with them; not sure
if they'll accept an overseas address.

Good Luck!

So easy that I am ashamed...

We had the quickest, carefree service obtaining a loan
from the Bank of Jerusalem, Private Banking Branch.
It was so easy that I am ashamed to admit it took less
than 20 minutes plus faxing some forms.

Contact Shai Mashiah, Head of the Mortgages Department
at 972-2-6774742 email:shai@bankjerusalem.com

Of greatest help was using Aryeh Rachlin as our lawyer to
administer the entire process while we were still in the States.

Fidelity Debit Visa

Fidelity Debit Visa card charges no fees at all-
You need to open a brokerage account there first.

E-Trade-fee free too!

I use E-Trade bank.

I have confirmed that there is no fee on either end and
that the conversion
rate is just about yatzig.

I withdraw at a Poalim ATM (I think Leumi ATMs also
would be fee free)

I checked my rate online. I got 3.70 on a day when yatzig
rate was 3.70 The
money changer would have given me
3.63 minus the check cashing fee which
would work out
to 3.55 So the net result was an extra 150 shekels on a
$1000
withdrawal.

Hatzlacha.

P.S. You need a USA address for the E-trade bank account,
which BTW is
totally free, FDIC insured, and no minimum
and a free checkbook.

https://us.etrade.com/e/t/welcome/regularchecking

Also the E-Trade platinum visa is also a credit card that
does not charge a
foreign transaction fee.

Purchases post at BETTER rates than yatzig!!

I have both E-trade Visa and the Capital One card and they are similar in
this aspect.

https://us.etrade.com/e/t/welcome/creditcard

But, Chase and Citibank credit cards DO charge an extra 2% for foreign
transactions.

Capital One-fee free card

I do know from extensive research and personal
experience that Capital One is the only credit card
I could find that charged no fee for use overseas.

Commerce Bank-fee free

Commerce Bank is not only fee free when taking out shekalim (or dollars!)
but, I was just told that if you use their debit card to buy something, they
absorb the 1% charge.

(I found this out as I, by mistake, used my blue commerce card instead of my
blue Isracard.)

They also have great hours in the US.

You will have to go to a branch in the US to open an account. However, they
are VERY good and not only provide all banking services on line but answer
their phones promptly 24 hours/day.

Using everbank.com in Israel

On your transactions in shekels, be sure to carefully check the
exchange rate from dollars you are getting. I found everbank.com to
work best for me since they do NOT raise the exchange rate and
charge
a flat 1% charge for all non-dollar transactions.

They also do not charge for any type of ATM fees and even offer
an ATM
Rebate program (via mail) for ATM surcharges, but I have yet to get
the nerve to send them an ATM slip in Hebrew that has a 4 shekel
surcharge :)

Banking with ING in Israel

I have used ING since I moved here last July and have had no problems with them. I simply changed my former NY address to my mother's Ohio address. They never send anything in the mail anyway, as everything is on-line. An added bonus is that their electric orange acct comes with an ATM card, which charges NOTHING to take money out in shekels at any caspomat here in Israel. And they have relatively favorable interest rates. It is a dream! I have found it to be the easiest and least costly way to get cash here in Israel from an american acct.

I maintain both my citibank and my ING accts. Citibank allows an Israeli
address, whereas ING does not. I use my mother's address for ING
and my
addressin Israel for Citi. The problem with citibank is that when
you take cash
out of your account here (via an ATM or caspomat as it
is called here) they
charge you 3% for changing it into shekels. ING
charges NOTHING! If you are
taking money out every week as I am,
it really adds up.
